Tahiti Humpback Tours 2024
“This was our second trip with WhaleSwim after Tonga in 2015 and it didn’t disappoint. Tahiti Moorea island is just a stunningly beautiful island thats stolen our hearts. The encounters we had with the whales will stay with us forever. The whales were so relaxed in our presence. We encountered many mothers and calfs and were lucky to swim with pilot whales, rays and reef sharks. Will definitely be returning soon.”

2024 – Join us to Swim with Humpback Whales in beautiful Moorea, Tahiti!.
We offer personally escorted, small whale swimming group tours in Moorea, as this island is known as the ‘humpback whale nursery’ and has the most humpback whales in the area throughout the season in French Polynesia (early August – early November). Humpbacks are seen around other islands, but they are only passing through.
Our all inclusive packages have NO hidden costs, include beach-side & garden Tahitian-style thatched-bungalow accommodation, fresh French-Tahitian and international cuisine prepared by our private chef, swim with whales (and other amazing marine-life), some leisure time & airport transfers.
After 23 years operating our Tonga whale swim tours in Vava’u – we began new tours to swimming with humpbacks in Moorea, Tahiti in 2016 and our guests are coming back there again, as they love it so much!
Our dedicated & passionate team Sabri, Maire (the whale-whisperer!), Teri’i, Emma and Rae, take care of every detail to deliver the best humpback whale experience in Tahiti!
Q: How long has Tahiti been offering whale swim experiences?
A: 24 years now!
Q: Why haven’t I heard about Tahiti whales?
A: Unlike Tonga, whale swimming is not Tahiti’s main tourist attraction, there are many different activities to do there, whale swimming is just one of the many.
Q: What is the best time to come during the whale season?
A: We get asked this question frequently, it’s a difficult answer as the humpbacks are in Moorea for the 3 months of the breeding season. BUT they do seem to arrive all together in late July/early August, so lots of whales around in early in the season. They start to leave mid – late October. There are always the Mums and calves that are born late in the season and they are around until mid-late November, sometimes longer. The mums wait until their calf is big and string too make the 8,000km swim with their wedding ground in the Antarctic.
The humpback whales are there in numbers during this period.
Please note the licensed whaleswim boats are only permitted to operate from 1 August to 10 November each year.
IMPORTANT! Over the 6 seasons we have operated in Moorea, we have swum with whales every day – except when the weather is very rainy and windy and that happens only 1 or 2 days each year. If this happens, we just go out for a full day with the whales instead of a 1/2 day. We only operate on dates that we know after 6 years of experience, the whales are around Moorea at this time every year!
We do not operate day-trips with the whales!!!!

PLEASE NOTE! We recommend that you seriously consider adding an extra nights’ accommodation each end of your tour dates when you make your tour booking!
It’s really worth it to take time to recover from jet-lag/time change, slow down to ‘Tahiti time’ or be ‘here’ in beautiful Moorea and another night after your tour to integrate what you have experienced with the whales before you start your journey home, to that ‘other’ reality!
PLEASE BE AWARE!!! There is also a shortage of accommodation on Moorea during the whale season, so its good to lock in your extra accommodation when you book your tour. You may also find the your flights don’t exactly match your tour dates.
Many guests in 2022, ended up having to stay extra nights in Pape’ete as they couldn’t find accommodation at Moorea Sunset Beach or anywhere on Moorea. Please consider this!
You can add the extra night/s once you have booked your tour and in our online booking system.

Our Incredible Team
Sabri Ben Hassine
Sabri lives in Paris, France with his lovely partner, Emma and their gorgeous daughter Pacifique, when he is not somewhere else in the world with his work as an Assistant Director for television productions in France and internationally.
In 2011 his work took him to Moorea, French Polynesia where he experienced his first in-the-water encounter with humpback whales and fell hopelessly in love.Every year since then, he became a whale-guide on Cata Manu, with our Tahitian skipper/captain Marie Te’amuu, for his vacation during whale season.
Sabri has guided several of our tour groups in the ocean from 2016 – 2018 and joined us as Tour Leader for the 2019 humpback whale season along with his partner, Emma and their cute baby daughter, Pacifique, who will be 18 months old during the 2020 season in Moorea.
This larger-than-life, former rugby player (with excellent camera-skills) will be your video-grapher for the season and will capture your unforgettable moments for the season and take great care of you as Team Leader.
Emma Hattais
Emma is our amazing cook! She attended a hotel school called Médéric in Paris when she was 15 years old but then at 17 she took an opportunity to start working as a model around the world and did so until she went back to school at La Sorbonne at 22. That’s also when she began working in restaurants part-time and very soon she was lucky enough to be working full time in the kitchen with great different Peruviens chefs who gave her the taste and passion for ceviches and Japanese nikkeï food and taught her many of their traditional recipes. She also loves cooking flavourful french, italian, greek and Vietnamese cuisine that she knows you will enjoy.
Rae Gill
Rae is the passionate owner of WhaleSwim Adventures. Rae has been swimming with humpback whales since 1998 and her connection and love for these majestic creatures, all marine life, the preservation of our oceans and the environment is always present. Being in the ocean with humpback whales is her ‘happy place’!
As a naturalist, she has extensive knowledge of humpback whales that has been gathered over the past 21 years, along with many stories to tell.
Our ‘Whale-whispering’ Boat & Crew

Lots of room for 9 guests plus crew and good protection from the sun and easy entry and exit from the water. We will have plenty of fresh tropical fruit (whatever is in season) aboard to snack on each day!
Some days, there may be an opportunity to swim with Black Tip reef sharks & rays, turtles and eagle rays or hang-out with the large pod of Spinner dolphins and congregate in the lagoon near to Haapiti.
The water is a beautiful 25C – 27C during the whale season.
Our Tahitian ‘whale-whisperer’, skipper and our guide, Maire Temau’u has been taking whale-lovers to swim with the humpbacks since 1998 and is committed to their protection and for all his guests to experience these incredible and majestic gentle giants of the sea.
